Andy Anuzis, born and raised in Detroit, is a lifelong Michigan resident, an educator, and experienced public servant running for the Wayne State University Board of Governors to help strengthen the university’s mission of access, excellence, and accountability.
For the past 13 years, Andy has worked in public education with Cornerstone Schools in downtown Detroit serving as President of the Cornerstone network. For the last five years, he has served as Principal of Lincoln-King High School, where he leads students, teachers, and families with a focus on academic achievement, character development, and real-world readiness. His daily work in education gives him a firsthand understanding of the challenges facing students, educators, and institutions in an urban environment.
Before entering education, Andy built a career in state and federal public policy, serving as a consultant and senior staff member in government. Most notably, he served as Chief of Staff in both the Michigan House of Representatives and the United States Congress, where he helped manage complex organizations, oversee budgets, and develop policy with long-term impact. That experience shaped his belief in disciplined governance, transparency, and responsible stewardship of public resources. Andy ran a state-wide construction trade association providing benefits, workforce training, and government affairs.
Andy has been deeply involved in community service throughout his life. He has volunteered as a Boy Scout troop leader for five years and continues to support youth leadership and service. He has also served on several boards, including the State of Michigan Workers’ Compensation Qualifications Advisory Committee (appointed by Governor John Engler), the Lithuanian-American Community national board, and the Lithuanian Scouts Association international executive board.
Andy’s educational background reflects both his Michigan roots and his commitment to learning. He attended Our Lady of Grace in Dearborn Heights and Bishop Borgess High School in Redford. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from University of Michigan-Dearborn and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University.
A husband and father, Andy has been married to his wife, Daina, for 35 years. Together they raised four sons—Erik, Alek, Daniel, and Adam. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, camping, and spending time outdoors, especially anywhere in Irish Hills or Northern Michigan. His favorite music includes the Allman Brothers and Tyler Childers, and his favorite films include Free State of Jones, Just Mercy, and Sling Blade.
Andy Anuzis is running for the Wayne State University Board of Governors to bring practical leadership, educational experience, and a steady, principled, common-sense voice to university governance—always focused on students, accountability, and the long-term success of Wayne State University.
